Strategic Learning Networks connecting schools in communities of practice
Our Language Networks are 14 strategic learning networks bringing together primary and secondary schools to share expertise, strengthen practice, and champion high-quality language learning. Funded by the DfE, each Language Network is coordinated by a lead school working with NCLE experts.
Through webinars, TeachMeets, sharing of resources and experience, and facilitated professional learning via Language Educators Online (LEO), the networks respond directly to regional needs, helping schools grow confident, well-informed language departments.
Grounded in the aims of NCLE, the Language Networks work to raise the profile of languages and strengthen teaching and learning nationwide. By connecting with your nearest network, you gain a local gateway into a national community of practice—complete with facilitated access to LEO’s CPD platform, research insights from NCLE experts, and opportunities to collaborate with colleagues across your region.
“Through our communities of practice across the country, NCLE is ready to support evolutionary change, co-ordinating and connecting teachers as we co-construct a relevant, relatable, and ambitious curriculum to meet the expectations of the new Progress 8.” Prof Bernardette Holmes, Director, NCLE
What the Language Networks do:
- Facilitate and contextualise LEO for regional primary and secondary networks: make the most of the free CPD on offer
- Build effective practice and grow your professional support network through webinars, TeachMeets, resource sharing, and collaborative discussion
- Share research insights from NCLE’s National Priority Projects
Watch our video of The Lakes Language Network (right) to see how this is working in reality.
Each network is coordinated by an NCLE lead school and contributes to a National Priority Project, supported by NCLE specialist advisers. These projects—aligned with DfE priorities—drive meaningful change through research-informed practice and evidence from real classroom interventions led by expert teachers.
